This studio redesigned the proposed wetland complex for Magnuson Park, Seattle. The design referenced the site's past use as a naval airstrip, optimized habitat for wetland species, and created an outdoor learning center for middle school children. Wetland types and sizing were determined using calculations of stormwater drainage from adjacent sports fields and parking lots.
1. Schematic. Landforms and vegetation originating
in sportsfields swoop across the site and align with the historical
runway. The landforms delineate drainage basins, act as leaky berms
to regulate water flow, and proivde a scaffold for circulation and
educational experiences.
