This project brought both Urban Planners and Landscape Architects to Palmer, AK to help this historic town strengthen their downtown core and preserve surrounding farmlands from Anchorage growth pressures. My work focused on farmland preservation strategies, open space planning and cluster development. As a result of our work local groups have created a Land Trust and Palmer may be floating an open space bond to purchase development rights.
1. I created this map by analyzing the Alaska Soil Survey to determe the most productive soil types and their relationship to exististing farmlands. The resulting maps helped identify priority farms for preservation.
